  • David E. Rojer, MD

    Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. David E. Rojer is a fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in adult hip and knee problems and reconstruction. His community practice is located in northern New Jersey, about 20 minutes outside of New York City. He has been a full partner in Union County Orthopaedic Group for over 20 years. He has performed over 2,500 hip and knee replacements since starting private practice in 2003. He has served as the Medical Director of the Joint Replacement Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway and at Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, NJ. His surgical expertise includes a rapid recovery program after joint replacement surgery – with regional anesthesia, inter-operative pain medicine injections, same day ambulation with physical therapy and discharge home from the hospital within 24 hours. For knee replacements Dr. Rojer offers tourniquet free surgery. For hip replacements Dr. Rojer is skilled at using advanced bearing surfaces and performing the direct lateral approach to the hip which allows for rapid early ambulation by preserving the muscles in the back of the hip. Another advantage of Dr. Rojer’s surgical approach to the hip is that a large pillow is not kept in between the legs, and his patients are allowed to sleep in any position that is comfortable immediately after surgery. Finally, Dr. Rojer utilizes a plastic surgery skin closure (with the Stryker Zip closure system) for all his elective hip and knee replacements – avoiding the use of staples and sutures in the skin that can become a source of irritation and infection. Dr. Rojer takes great pride in giving each surgical patient individual attention. Because he is only performing 2 or 3 major surgeries a week, he is able to personally contact each patient through their cell phone and respond to text and voicemails as needed. He believes that by being extremely involved in his patient’s recovery, he can achieve better outcomes. To this extent, his surgical patients are given his personal cell phone number so that open communication can be facilitated and encouraged. In addition to surgical options, Dr. Rojer is also an expert in helping active adults to delay or avoid knee replacement surgery through proper diagnosis, bracing, vitamins, medications, injections, physical therapy, exercise and minor same day arthroscopic knee procedures. He takes pride in giving a 3 second ‘minimally painful’ knee injection without requiring any additional (& expensive) ultrasound equipment – & he performs over 200 knee injections in his office every month. In general, Dr. Rojer would much prefer to avoid or delay surgery for as long as possible by helping patients to live with their orthopedic ailments with low-risk interventions. When surgery is indicated, Dr. Rojer strives to achieve a 95% success rate.
